Making Memories Learning About Christmas Around The World

This month we have been learning all about Christmas Around The World. The last couple of weeks we learned about Germany, Russia, Holland and Italy. We've been making yummy food from around the World, watching movies and videos, making fun ornaments, reading lots of books and listening to music. Last week we took a live online Currclick class from Founders Academy where we learned about what Christmas was like during colonial times. The course went along nicely with our Christmas Around The World unit study because it covered Holland and British Christmas traditions as well. Last week we also watched a great movie called Santa and Pete which is a movie about the Holland legend of Sinterklaas. The kids said this has been their most favorite unit study so far for the new school year. Oh and the kids also had a goodie arrive in the mail all the way from Canada. Their adopted Canadian Grandma sent them some special Canadian coins!

Here are some photos of what we have been up to:
If you want to see more photos check out our instagram feed.

We have been watching some great videos on YouTube. Do you use YouTube in your homeschool? It is a fabulous resource here is one video we watched to learn about the legend of Befana. View the other videos we have been watching for our Christmas Around the World unit study here.

Here are some of the books we have been reading:
We are still working on reading through some of these.

And here are some photos from our recent field trips:
Earlier this month we went to see an awesome Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer play at the Puppetry Center in Atlanta. It was a fabulous show. We also saw a hilarious puppet show called "Fa-La-La-La Follies" at the library by "That Puppet Guy." Let's see what else???? Oh we built Gingerbread Houses with 78 of our homeschool friends. We visited the Wrens Nest the home of the famous author Joel Chandler Harris. His birthday is in December so there were all sorts of fun festivities including storytelling. We traveled back to Bethlehem with some friends. We also went the Atlanta History Center for the Holiday Spirit event where we made ornaments, saw Santa and learned about Christmas in the 1800's as well as Christmas Around The World. We went caroling and handed out Christmas cards at a local nursing home. What an awesome experience this was yet again. The smiles on the residents faces said it all! And we got to see REAL LIVE Reindeer at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. It was quite a busy field trip month!

To see the FREE resources we have been using for our Christmas Around The World Unit Study visit this post

But this month is sadly coming to an end and so has our super fun unit study (but we will be doing Christmas Around The World again next year I'm sure). I am in the process of revamping some things in our home and homeschool for 2013 (more coming on that soon)...but I can tell you that we will have a "whale of a time" with our January unit study!

A week in the life of homeschoolers - July 22nd - 28th

We had a slow week I do really mean slow. Due to some financial constraints again we had to stay home most of the week. I am getting this post up a little later than I normally like to (I have been getting them up late all Summer) but hopefully with our NEW homeschool year starting TODAY I will get back on some sort of schedule.

July 22nd - July 28th
Sunday we enjoyed a family day at home. I got some much needed preparation done for the next month. Monday we had lots of fun making Tie Dye Tshirts using tissue paper (click the link to read more). Another item checked off our Summer Fun Bucket ListTuesday we took a class from Founders Academy on the Olympics. Wednesday the kids made some sun catchers that we picked up at Dollar Tree then we took another GREAT online class form Founders Academy. The kids learned all about the Bill of Rights while lounging on the sofa in their PJs. Thursday we visited the library where we got to see a great magic show put on by Arthur Atsma. Afterwards we headed to the pool where we had a great time swimming, making a new friends and finding treasures. The BIG brown truck dropped off a package with some awesome board games (review coming next month) so we just had to play 1 before bedtime. Friday the kids and I went to our 3rd homeschool conference of the year, The Southeast Homeschool Expo. We had a great time as always. The kids got lots of FREE goodies and got to play with some cool things. And I made some blogging connections. I also got to see and talk with some great friends. I was so super proud at how well behaved the kids were. They kept themselves busy with coloring books, the Rose Art travel art case and my phone which is loaded with apps. Saturday the kids hung out with daddy at the pool while I headed to The Southeast Homeschool Expo for day 2.

How was your week?

A week in the life of homeschoolers - 5 week Summer fun update

Well I am behind AGAIN. Summertime has really thrown off our routine (well what little routine we had). We have been busy enjoying the outdoors and spending LOTS of time with friends. We actually haven't been doing much "school work" like I had planned. I had hoped to continue working on unit studies and a few other things but hubby said we needed a break because we worked so hard this past year. So I have been spending time with the kids and having FUN! After all this is my first summer as a stay at home mom.

Beware this post contains lots of photo collages!!

May 20th - May 26th
What a wonderful fun filled week despite not having a car again most of the week. Monday we had an amazing first annual homeschool field day. There was about 80+ kids. We played lots of games and had an amazing picnic lunch. Tuesday we had Lego club at the library. Wednesday I took the kids and the ferret to the play court to ride their bikes and play with sidewalk chalk. Later Gwyn played on Coindexter a really cool game that teaches kids finances. Friday we did some Geocaching and Hiking. We found two more puzzle pieces to our GA 400 Geocache. Then we found a new place to hike called Sawnee Mountain Preserve. We also did another Geocache there as well and got to see an awesome view of North GA.  Saturday morning the kids learned to fish Tom and Huck style. The kids got a lesson from a park ranger and then made fishing poles out of bamboo. They even used a cork for the bobber. Both kids had a blast and my crazy daughter enjoyed cutting worms in half and playing with the fish that were caught. She even kissed one, YUCK!  Later that night I got to enjoy some alone time with several moms from our homeschool group.  I painted a gorgeous sunflower canvas painting which is now hanging in Gwyns room.

May 27th - June 2nd
Sunday we had a great family day at Tree Top Preserve. We got to climb and zip through the trees. You can check out my review about this place over at Expedition Mom. Monday we went to downtown Roswell to celebrate Memorial Day we had a fun time and got to hear some amazing stories from Veterans and got to hear some amazing music. Later in the afternoon we took an amazing Memorial Day course from Founders Academy. Wednesday we went tubing down the Chattahoochee River in Helen, GA. There were several homeschool families that attended and everyone had such a blast. We also walked around Helen which is an awesome town. It is actually a replica of an Alpine Village. We checked out the cool shops, got some yummy ice cream and ate lunch by the river. The kids also got to feed Molly a carriage horse some carrots. It was so much fun we are doing it again in July on a weekend so the dads can join the fun. Thursday we had fun with our friends playing at the Sprayground in Roswell, GA. Friday we enjoyed a relaxing day at home. Rowyn has been really into Superman so he decided it would be fun to fly around the house. Then we played in the rain which is one of the many items on our Summer Fun Bucket List. We also made a cheesecake and decorated it with sprinkles, watched movies and read books. Saturday we relaxed at home and Gwyn lost another tooth she was so excited.

June 3rd - June 9th
Sunday we enjoyed a day at the HIGH Museum of Art. I also have written a review about this place for Expedition Mom. The kids had a lot of fun and learned all sorts of amazing things. Monday we had our very first drama club meeting. Tuesday we took a tour of Canine Assistance and learned all about how they train assistance dogs for the disabled. The kids got to even play with the puppies. Afterwards we had some fun eating lunch and playing at the park with our friends. Wednesday we had our very first Geocaching Club meetup. I taught several of our friends how to Geocache and we released Homeschool Pinocchio on his journey around the world. Then the kids and I colored our Rose Art Imagination Station which we used as our Lemonade Stand for our Alex's Lemonade Stand event. Thursday we made some brownies, played on the computer and went to the library for a puppet show. Friday we held our first Alex's Lemonade Stand to help raise money for childhood cancer. You can read more about it here. We had a great turn out and raised $235.85.

June 10th - June 16th
Monday we had another fun day of drama. Wednesday we went to see The Little Mermaid Pirate (another review by me) at the Center For Puppetry Arts. The show was absolutely amazing. Afterwards we met some friends at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Thursday we went to see a very cool, educational magician at the library. He got the kids excited about reading and shared some pretty cool facts with them while preforming magic tricks. The kids also got to pick out their free books for reading 10 books for the summer reading program. They also got coupons for FREE Chick-fil-A kids meals so we ate out for lunch. Later we took a Flag Day course from Founders Academy and then made a patriotic windsocks as a craft. Friday we got to learn all about K9 Police Dogs in a demonstration by the Cherokee County Sheriffs Department. This was such a cool educational event. Afterwards we went to Stevi B's for some pizza and ice cream. Saturday was my birthday and 12th wedding anniversary. We went to Krispy Kreme for breakfast then had some fun playing video games. Later that night my wonderful husband let me go out with the girls for a fabulous girls night out!

June 17th - June 22nd
Sunday we enjoyed a great Fathers Day at White Water. I am so very thankful to have awesome friends who get us into places for free. Monday we had drama club then we went to our friends house to pick some amazing blueberries. The kids also got to play with a really cute black bunny named Enota. When we got home the kids decided to they wanted to make blueberry pancakes. Tuesday we went to the library and a great time at the petting zoo. The kids got to pet Ponies, Goats, a Donkey, a Pig, Scottish Highland Cow, an Alpaca and a Chicken. We stayed there for an hour and a half and my kids even helped pack up the petting zoo trailer. The kids read 10 more books so they each got another FREE Chick-fil-A kids meal. Afterwards we headed to the pool for the first time this Summer. Gwyn told me she was going to learn to swim this year. Last year she was terrified of the water but not this year. We also collected dead bugs from the pool to add to our bug board. Afterwards the kids helped me make dinner, Pasta with spaghetti sauce and baked zucchini. Wednesday we had fun playing in the fountains at Centennial Olympic Park. We also got to watch the fountain show. We also took some pictures with the Dolphins on Parade which is one to of the things on our Summer Fun Bucket ListThursday we hung out with Moms Mustard Seeds at her pool. The kids had a blast and so did I. Nothing better than chatting with a homeschool mom friend! And well today Friday we are spending time at home. I am organizing the schoolroom, cleaning the apartment and getting caught up some other things like finishing this post.

So that is what we have been up to the past five weeks. Hopefully I will be better about getting next week up.

A week in the life of homeschoolers - Lots of hands on learning

We had a wonderful first year of homeschool. We learned lots of amazing things, we had tears, we changed our homeschooling method several times, we ditched the schedule, we added more field trips, we created special memories, we learned about learning styles and we had fun together.  I love it that my kids now ask to homeschool, EVEN on the weekends. We are still going to be learning throughout the summer so my "A week in the life of homeschoolers" posts will continue. One thing I will be changing is that my weekly posts will no longer have the weeks listed I was only doing that for our first year.

I have also started video taping a little bit of our field trips so if you want to view and keep up with the videos subscribe to our Field Trip YouTube Channel.

Monday was the same old same old speech, a few quick errands and soccer. Before soccer though we hopped online to take a class from Founders Academy on The Pledge of Allegiance. We also made some yummy peach and mango smoothies.

Gwyn saying the Pledge of Allegiance along with Mrs. Schott. We hook the laptop up to the TV and do our live online classes that way.

Tuesday the kids and I went to Fernbank one last time before our membership expired. As always we had so much fun. We learned about animals, orphaned orangutans, injured animals, dinosaurs and more. We also had a discussion of why the Big Bang Theory is not how we believe the world started. We checked out the Roses at the Fernbank Garden and then headed to the Science center. We walked through Fernbank Forest and saw a Palliated Woodpecker (boy are they big), a Copperhead, Frog, Tadpole and Turtle. Love educational hands on days like this.

Wednesday we went to the Atlanta Zoo with some wonderful homeschool friends. We learned all sorts of things and got to see the Gorillas and Orangutans eat. We got to see the many zoo babies and boy have they all gotten so big. We also learned about carnivorous plants.

Thursday we traveled back in time to the 1450's at the Georgia Renaissance Festival. We had such a blast. Both the kids and I learned some interesting things. We attended three shows birds of prey, instruments or the Renaissance and a jousting tournament. We attended a couple of demonstrations on weaving and glass blowing. The kids learned how glass is made which totally amazed them. They got to pet sheep, goats, geese and a Scottish Highlands cow. Gwyn was fascinated by a 4 horned sheep so she asked the attendant why he had 4 horns. The gentleman explained that it was a Jacob Sheep. And that they can actually have anywhere from 2-6 horns. And in Parrots of the Caribbean they got to meet an African Grey, Cockatoos, Macaws and a Kookaburra up close. When we were leaving one of the vendors cracked open an oyster to show us a cultured pearl. While he was cracking it open he explained to the kids how pearls are made and they were shocked to find out that pearls also come from sand. The nice vendor gave the pearl to me because I mentioned it was my birthstone and he gave Gwyn the shells.

Friday we started a science experiment, did a little bit of gardening and crafting. We also worked on the activity pages that the GA Renaissance Fair provides to educators.

Saturday we got up early to take Daddy to work. Then we headed to the soccer field. Gwyn had a tough time at soccer due to the heat and her competitive spirit. A couple of the girls didn't show up leaving them short of players so the girls had to play the entire 30-45 minute game. Some of the girls on the team were not participating so the other team was scoring lots of goals which made Gwyn very upset. It was a great time to explain a very important lesson. Gwyn took a short break from the game so I could explain to her that winning is not all that matters. That as long as she was having fun and trying her best that was all that mattered. It was also a great time to discuss perseverance which is one of our We Choose Virtues character traits. After soccer we went to a fun FREE event at a local park called Touch A Truck. The kids got to touch all kinds of cool trucks. They also got to ta\lk to the men and women that drive them. We saw police cars and motoercycles, ambulaces, firetrucks, limos, garbage ttrucks, buses and more. We learned that Waffle House has an RV that they use when they go to do disaster relief. We also learned all about the EPA and what they do. Gwyns favorite part though was meeting a police dog and asking the police officer lots of questions. Rowyns favorite part was the safety house where there was real smoke. They learned how important it is to crawl on the ground during a fire.

Sunday Gwyn was begging to do homeschool so we worked on our field trip binder and tracked the growth of our plants. Gwyn also started her Circle C Journey Through Learning Lapbook on Andi's Pony Trouble. And Rowyn colored and worked on his A,B,C's.

I hope you find these resources useful. If you ever have any questions feel free to leave me a comment or email me. Also be sure to follow my FB page where I post FreeBEEs daily.

Thanks for stopping by.

Curriculum for 2012-2013

Well its time to start planning for the 2012-2013 school year. We are technically almost finished with our 2011-2012 school year according to the state law of 180 days. But our learning is not going to stop the plan is to continue to homeschool throughout the summer. We won't be doing homeschool stuff everyday since I will need some time to finish a few projects, scrapbook, clean up internet bookmarks, computer files and get worksheets/lapbooks/unit studies printed. I have slowly been planning out some unit study ideas and finding some FREE curriculum online.

So far here is some of the stuff we have planned and some of the resources we will be utilizing.

Unit Study Ideas:
  • Butterfly's
  • Puppet History
  • Mythology
  • Dinosaurs
  • Astronomy
  • Trains

Technology We Are Using:

Android Tablet - Here are some great FREE apps (prices change from time to time so they may no longer all be FREE):

Kindle Reader on Android Tablet/Phone and PC
- Check out these great websites where you can get lots of links to FREE Kindle books (again prices change from time to time so they may no longer all be FREE), some of these website offer great pdf books which you can use on your Kindle device:

Wii
-Yes we have several educational games for our Wii (obviously these are not FREE, but you can check Ebay and Amazon who run great deals often on Wii games):

Computer
- I LOVE our computers and our internet access. The FREE resources are endless. I consider Google to be one of my best friends when it comes to finding homeschool materials. Make sure you read my FreeBEE Friday posts each week. And utilize your bookmarks, Pinterest and this nifty program called Xmarks. Xmarks is a FREE bookmark cloud program. Install Xmarks on each computer you use, and it will seamlessly integrate with your web browser and keeps your bookmarks safely backed up and in sync. Also make sure you like all your favorite homeschool companies, blogs, etc on Facebook. Many of them share great resources which are FREE most of the time. If you don't already like my Facebook Page make sure you do it right now. I share lots of great FreeBEEs on there everyday. I am also trying to reach 350 likes, when I do I will be giving one lucky reader 2 books, view the first post on my timeline for more details.

Roku - I love our Roku Box. It is great for streaming educational shows (we no longer have cable). Here are some channels we enjoy:
  • Khan Academy
  • Kidlet
  • Ameba
  • Iggy. TV
  • The Bazillions
  • Kid Paint
  • TED TV
  • NASA - There are actually a few NASA channels
  • PBS
  • Ocean Network
  • iTunes Podcasts

Curriculum Resources:
Here are several of the programs we will definitely be utilizing next year (not all are FREE):
  • Reading Eggs - Both of my kids love this program. You can read our full review here
  • Science curriculum for FREE - We discovered Arvind Gupta on a TED TV episode we were watching on our Roku. All of the stuff books, videos etc are FREE. There are some really great science experiments. Here is his website and his YouTube channel. I also really love The Happy Scientist stuff, the majority of his stuff is FREE as well.

Teach Them Diligently Convention Highlights and Some Mini Reviews

I had the amazing opportunity to attend Teach Them Diligently as a blogger a couple of weeks ago. A special thanks to my dear friend Rebecca from Moms Mustard Seeds for asking me to be part of the amazing blogger group. Warning this is a long post but it is worth reading the entire way through. There are some amazing companies to read about and some amazing FREE resources (of course).

She may will probably never hear the end of it for posting this picture.

I drove to Teach Them Diligently with Kelli from Adventurez In Child Rearing. We had talked online for months and became good friends and I finally got to meet her IRL (In Real Life). She is an amazing homeschool mom of 3 boys.

I had a special blogger badge which was very cool. I even had a couple of people say to me, "Hey I have read your blog" which is even cooler. I had the opportunity to meet lots of amazing companies, speakers, friends and bloggers.

This convention was amazing. And the Nunnery family is even more amazing. They poured their hearts into this convention and it certainly showed each day as I walked around. I saw so many homeschool families beaming with joy and wisdom. And loaded down with curriculum. I am so blessed to have been part of their very first convention. There was a great vendor hall filled with large and small companies and a line up of amazing speakers. This is definitely a convention you will want to attend in the future. It was well organized. The registration check in was super quick and easy. If you plan to take the family you will not be disappointed. There were lots of great kids classes and even a playground. I actually saw kids who did not want to leave when their parents went to pick them up. They had lots of great food options (like Johnny's Pizza, Firehouse Subs and Chick-fil-A) for lunch and dinner which were all reasonably priced. The venue they chose in Spartenburg was great. It was very large and easy to navigate. It didn't feel like there were 4,000 + families there.

Sea of people.

A few highlights:

Working At The Founders Academy Booth:
You may have heard me talk about Founders Academy before and that's because we love Lynn's classes. Lynn approached me about helping at her booth at Teach Them Diligently while she was speaking in some workshops. And of course I jumped on the opportunity to help her. Lynn offers online live classes through CurrClick for all ages. She actually just added two classes in April specifically for younger kids ages 5-7, Our Flag and Pledge of Allegiance (we will be doing this one). Each of these on sale right now for only $4.00. The cool thing is they are recorded and even after the class you will have access to the recording forever so you can always go back through them with your kids. If applicable Lynn will also provide you with links to further resources. Want to see what a Founders Academy class is like for yourself? Lynn has allowed me to share her convention SPECIAL page with my readers. Click here to view a recorded class, ebook and also the Freedom Friday series which includes videos/resources. Lynn is doing Freedom Fridays in cooperation with Rebecca from Moms Mustard Seeds. Want access to alerts about specials sign up on Founders Academy website or sign up for text offers by texting Founders to "32020"

Speakers:
Wow I got to hear several wonderful speakers. I think the primary reason anyone should attend a homeschool convention is to hear speakers. I mean the vendors are awesome too but the speakers always blow my mind and teach me the most wonderful things. So how on earth do/did I chose who to hear? Well I look for speakers who are covering topics that are pertinent to my kids learning styles, our homeschool style and that help me improve as a parent and teacher. Since I was over multi-tasking and had some trouble dividing up my time between meeting with friends, cruising the vendor hall, and helping Founders Academy I didn't get to hear as many as I had hoped but here are the few I did and some tidbits.

1) The very  first speaker I heard was Sonya Shafer who is with Simply Charlotte Mason. You can find them on Twitter and Facebook as well. She discussed who Charlotte Mason was and what her methods were. The first thing Sonya discussed was the Book of Centuries you can read more here and get a FREE download. She spoke a lot about copy work and said that, "copywork gives something interesting to write about an idea." She even has us practice some copy work too.

I just love the Charlotte Mason student and parent mottos as well:
Student motto: I am, I can, I ought, I will. (my kids will be memorizing this soon)
Parents motto: Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life. (I couldn't agree with this more)

She discussed various ways copy work can be completed and did a fun exercise with us where we had to memorize a couple of sentences in a poem and then re-write it without looking. This technique helps children with hand writing, grammar, spelling, reading comprehension and more.

And she talked about picture studies. She had us do an exercise for this as well. The recommendation is that you pick an artist to focus on and do 6 of their works. Here is a quote from Sonya, "narration is a much higher thinking skill." If you want to learn more about picture studies check out this link.

Picture study workshop assignment.

2) Another speaker I got to listen too was Cathy Canen. Cathy is with Writing Strands but was talking about  S.O.S! School on a Shoestring. You can find them on Twitter and Facebook as well. The workshop's focus was to inform homeschoolers that they don't need to spend a lot of money on curriculum (now I already know how to do this because well I am the queen of FreeBEEs) but I was curious and wanted to here her recommendations. I am glad I picked up a few good ideas.

Cathy says the first thing on your agenda should be figuring out what to teach and how you want to teach it. The determine what to teach. Since most people feel they need some sort of guideline she recommended using standardized tests, scope and sequences or grade level textbooks as a guide. One book she recommended was by Susan Wise Bauer called The Well Trained Mind. She shared a great quote from Project 2061 which is "teach less in order to teach it better."  Don't you just love that? Cathy's homeschool style is a lot like ours she incorporates lots of unit/topics studies which are focused on for 1 month. And uses the library as  their main resource. She has her children use the following system for their unit/topic studies: hear it, read it, write it, say it, display it, review it. She talked about how literature always has 4 parts and as children grown older they will always be able to figure these out which will make them better writers and readers:  setting, characters, conflict and resolution. If your goal is to have self guided learners than children must need to learn to reason through it. You as a parent should always play down whats done wrong and play up whats done right. She also used history timelines which are similar to the Charlotte Mason Book of Centuries. Cathy posted paper on their school room wall and had the timeline start at creation. Each of her kids marked their birth and then as they learned about topics they place it on their timeline.

And lastly she shared her scheduling method with us:
A. Core and research for unit/topic study
B. Core only
C. Field trips, unit/topic study, drawing, sick days, appointments, etc.

So here is how a typical week may look:
Mon.-Schedule A, Tue.-Schedule A, Wed.-Schedule B, Thu.-Schedule B, Fri.-Schedule C

I thought that was such a good idea (of course right now we have more C scheduled days in our homeschool, lol)

Vendor Hall:
So I have a soft spot for three types of companies: small businesses, veteran owned and charity/not for profit businesses. I have chosen to highlight a few of these companies. Many of these vendors I spoke with at length and loved learning more about their awesome products. Some of them provided me with review items so I could help promote them (so keep and eye out). Several shared their wonderful knowledge and provided me with helpful tips and recommended books/resources.

Make sure you check out Rescued The Movie. They were not at the convention but they were my friend Kelli's sponsor and helped us with our hotel accommodations.

My wonderful friend Founders Academy (see above for details).

Jericho The Promised Full Filled dvd. This movie is done using LEGOs. It is super cool and we already watched it several times (full review coming soon). Right now you can really help them out by voting for them to Get On The Shelf At Walmart.

Have you ever heard about A Journey Through Learning? They are the book in the picture with the colorful hot air balloon. They make some amazing lapbook products. You can purchase them in ebook or hard copy format. They even have lapbooks for Veggie Tale DVDs.

The Majesty Music / Patch the Pirate booth was filled with awesome cd's (I will be reviewing one of these too). There are actually some freebees on the Patch the Pirate website.

This was company is both a small and veteran owned business. Here is a picture of them with their granddaughter. Their business is Educational Materials Association and they make very simple educational board games. They have games for geography, history, presidents and endangered animals. They also sell very nice laminated posters. You can read more about EMA here. The recommended age on their games is 8 yrs old and up but they told me children as young as 6 yrs have played their games. I decided to purchase the Endangered Wildlife game for my kids. The owner of the company also gave me a laminated poster which is hanging on the outside of our schoolroom door. The games $18.95 and can be played by 1-6 players. Each game kit includes additional resources. The endangered wildlife game comes with a playing board, deck of 50 game cards, instructions/teacher's guide, 24 page resource booklet, reproductible activities & puzzles, endangered wildlife glossary, FREE folded poster and study guide, pre/post tests.

Even kids as young as 4 1/2 can play. I made some adaptions to the game  instructions.

Tim Ostermeyer's book are absolutely amazing. His booth was one of the first I stopped by Thursday night. The photographs in his book were actually taken by him. Fun Adventure Wildlife Books is the name of his website and book line. He was very kind and gave me a copy of Snowballs Antarctic Adventures to review (coming soon) but I just loved his stuff so much I went back and purchased Snuggles the Japanese Alps Adventures. We will be using this in April when we are doing our primate study. Each of his books tells a great story, has fact boxes with 10 facts of each animal in the book, and a great moral. The penguin book even has a math fact. His books can be ordered through Amazon or you can contact him directly to place an order.

Aren't these gorgeous books? Gwyn was really excited when I brought them home and started flipping through the right away.

I love what Rice Bowls promotes and thought it would be a great opportunity for my kids to help someone in need. So I grabbed a Rice Bowl for our family.

Disclaimer: I want to thank Teach Them Diligently for providing me with FREE registration to the convention. In return I will be blogging, tweeting and facebooking about the convention. Many of the links found on my side bars and in my blog posts are affiliate links. As a result, I might get paid money and I will most likely spend the money on homeschool supplies or a hotel for the convention.
