A moms review:
We received another great art item from RoseArt, the Extreme Air Brush Studio! I knew this would be a HUGE hit with my creative, crafty, artsy kids, who are 6 and 7. They couldn't wait to tear into the package and ever since it arrived they beg to play with it everyday!

**Before I start telling you all the amazing details and sharing our photos and video I want to let you in on a little secret. On Black Friday which is only a few short weeks away you will be able to snag one of these awesome kits for only $9.97 at Walmart! If you have an artistic, creative, crafty child who likes making beautiful creations then this is a must have gift! Check out the Black Friday Ad**

I had a hard time getting the kids to pose for a photo with the box because they were so anxious to tear into it. The kids had no problem assembling the Air Brush Studio  they even put the 4 C batteries in all by themselves. Important note if you give this as a gift DON'T forget the batteries. Gwyn loved the fact that the Air Brush Studio is compact and portable. Everything fits into the caddy nicely, including the stencils! She has been begging to take it on car rides.

Creating works of art with the Air Brush Studio was tons of fun. The Air Brush Studio is recommended for children ages 3 and up, which is definitely appropriate though younger children may require assistance. As soon as you open the box and insert the batteries you can begin creating! Just grab some paper and let your imagination run wild.

The Air Brush Studio comes with the following:
-Air Brush Caddy
-15 Super Tip Markers
-5 Stencil Sheets (letters, beach, space, etc)
-Detachable Motorized Pump and Sprayer (requires 4 C batteries)
-Instruction Sheet

I only needed to show the kids one time how it worked. It is super simple you just remove the marker cap and insert the marker into the grey sprayer, you do need to press firmly so that the tips color can be seen at the hole. Then turn on the motorized sprayer, press the red button on the sprayer and you're off. You can use the included stencils or come up with your own creations!  If your markers begin to run out...don't worry any skinny, super tip RoseArt markers can be used as replacements!

For Rowyn my son who has some motor skill issues this was a fantastic way for him to help build them up. He did a fabulous job, actually sat still for more than 5 minutes and was so proud of what he had created.

The kids and I, yes I must admit even I couldn't resist grabbing the airbrush to create a work of art, played for hours with the Airbrush Studio. It was so much fun! And the pictures make our bare white fridge look fabulous! Be sure to check out RoseArt Extreme Air Brush YouTube video as well for further information as well as tips!

Wanna guess which one mine is?

And of course since it's RoseArt clean up is super easy, because the markers are washable as well as non-toxic!

RoseArt Magic Fun Dough Review - Princess and Pony Set

*This post contains affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure Page for details.

I am sure you have all heard of RoseArt before. I have reviewed many of their fabulous products on my blog over the last couple years. RoseArt is a division of MEGA Brands, a global organization that operates out of North America. The companies mission is to provide stimulating, creative experiences for children and families through innovative, well-designed, affordable and high-quality products. And nurture creativity in every child and family!

RoseArt is celebrating their 90th anniversary so be sure to head over to their Facebook Page to enter the 90th Anniversary Facebook Sweepstakes for a chance to win $1,000 in holiday spending "dough" or weekly gift cards and prize pack.

A moms review:
We received a fun NEW product to review called Magic Fun Dough. But we didn't just receive the Magic Fun Dough we also got one of the awesome NEW playset kits. There are 6 kits, 3 geared toward boys and 3 geared toward girls. Though I will say my son had no problem playing with the Princess and Pony Kit.

Kits:
-Princess and Ponies
-Pet Shop
-Pirate Cove
-Fairy Tea Party
-Barnyard
-Volcano Valley

The kits are designed for children ages 3 years and older and will provide hours of fun. My 6 and 7 year old had a blast, making creations and then playing with them. The box the kits come in are bright and colorful and sure to capture any child's attention. And the playset is so easy to assemble, a 7 year old can do it.

 Included in each kit:

-Rolling Pin - to roll out dough
-Plastic Knife - to trim excess dough from edges
-35 Magic Transfers - to transform your dough into full color art
-Magic Transfer Water Pen - to apply a little bit of magic dust (aka water) with your wand (aka water pen)
-Magic Transfer Press - press and say the magic words
-4 Dough Cutters - to cut your new creations out perfectly
-4 Dough Stands - apply your new creations so they can stand up for playing
-4 Magic Dough Containers (3 oz per tube)
-Playset With Stickers And Molds - for hours of fun

Magic Fun Dough is unique and not your typical dough BECAUSE you can apply colorful Magic Transfers (which are like a temporary tattoo) directly onto your dough to make your creations come alive. But don't worry the transfers are not permanent and you can simply squish, mash and roll your dough and watch your transfers magically disappear into the dough so you can reuse it to create more eye popping creations.

It's as easy as....

The princess kit had princess, prince, gem, pony and frog Magic Transfers. I think the fact there was a prince is why Rowyn didn't mind playing with the set. He really liked the Magic Wishing Well press too. There are orange, pink and blue princesses and ponies. Gwyns favorite was the pink of course. The transfers are super easy to apply and I only needed to show the children once. Once they create their fun characters they can add accessories like necklaces and crowns using the molds on the playset. They can also use the molds on the playset to decorate the castle with some wreaths and butterflies. And of course no castle is complete without lots of jewels. Finally it's time for the princess to find her prince charming. She may need some help from her pony friends or perhaps the frog in the wishing well. Watch your child's imagination run wild as they created lots of stories with their Magic Fun Dough playset.

Video:
Please be sure to check out Gwyn's Vlog! She would love it if you left her a comment or gave her a thumbs up!

I think it is safe to say that the NEW Magic Fun Dough sets are a HUGE hit with my kids. I think another kit may be under the Christmas Tree for them...shhhhhh! Visit the website to find out more about Magic Fun Dough.

Gwyns review (7 yrs old):
I love the Magic Fun Dough. It is lots of fun to create stuff and lots of fun to play with the people and ponies too. It is even easy to clean up!

Rowyns review (6 yrs old):
I had super fun. I like the prince, wishing well and frog best. I want to play with the dough all the time.

RoseArt Surprise Inside Sidewalk Chalk Review

Just in time for Easter baskets...RoseArt has a great NEW product called Surprise Inside Sidewalk Chalk. There are 5 themes (flower, sun, skull, starfish, monster) and each one has a special surprise. There are 20 surprises in all that your child can collect.

A moms review:
I don't know about the weather in your neck of the woods, but here in GA it has been cold, windy, rainy and just down right dreary. Spring is supposed to be on its way, but sadly we haven't seen any signs of it yet. We received RoseArts newest product Surprise Inside Sidewalk Chalk last week but due to the weather we haven't been able to use them. Well today the sun peaked out and we snuck out!!! The kids were very happy to break open the package and begin decorating our sidewalk.

We drew pictures of Spring things and even wrote a plead for Spring to come! We also had some learning fun and practiced math, spelling and handwriting. The chalk kept the kids busy for an hour before I told them it was time to go in. They would have probably stayed out there until the chalk ran out.

We received the flower theme set which included one large white piece (the center of the flower) and 6 smaller pieces (the petals of the flower). The colors included are green, orange, pink, blue, yellow and purple. The chalks are easy to draw with and show up very bright and vibrate on the sidewalk. Gwyn had the honor of breaking open the white piece of chalk to discover the special surprise....which was a tiny purple butterfly. And it just so happened she was busy drawing a beautiful butterfly when she broke it open so she was very excited.

We had a blast and hope Spring will listen and arrive soon. This NEW chalk product by RoseArt received 5 Jellybeans (stars) from the kids!

Top 10 Reasons To Encourage Your Kids To Write Letters

Did you know December is "Write To A Friend Month?" With the invention of email, texting and phones letter writing has sadly become a dead art. Yes, writing is very much an art. Have you ever looked at an old letter or postcard (if not dig some out I am sure you have some laying around). Letters reveal so much about a person. You can see the emotions and thought that went into writing a letter through the handwriting, words and even the state of the paper it is written on. You can tell if the writer was happy, angry or perhaps crying. You don't get any of that from an email or text.

Image(s): FreeDigitalPhotos.net

My kids (especially my daughter) love to write letters and put them in the mail. Check out this past post about making Pen Pals. Saturday the kids wrote letters to soldiers who are serving their first deployment in Afghanistan. Today they worked on making and writing cards for their friends and some residents at a nursing home.

Here 10 reasons we need to encourage our kids to pick up a pen or pencil and write a letter.

1) It's a great way to teach that writing a letter requires the use of certain conventions. A letter has five parts: the heading, the greeting, the body, the closing, and the signature.
2) It's a great way to learn the concept of "audience." Not every letter you write will be written the same way. A letter to Grandma or Grandpa will not be the same as writing to your best friend, etc.
3) Letters are more personal.
4) Everyone loves getting mail (especially when it's not a bill).
5) It's a great way to practice penmanship, grammar and punctuation.
6) It allows you express your creativity. Add some drawings with your letter, write with colored pens or pencils, dot your i's with hearts.
7) Letters can be written for so many occasions and reasons: holidays, birthdays, thank you's, apologies, get well soon, congratulations, just to say hello, etc.
8) Letter writing is a very important skill to have for both young and old.
9) Its a special way to cherish memories. I have every handwritten letter anyone has ever sent me. When my brother was in the marines and overseas he wrote to me every week. I still have each and every letter.
10) Writing letters is a great exercise in expressing thoughts in words.

There are some great letter writing lesson resources here.

Now grab some paper and your pens, pencils and markers and introduce your kids to the lost art of letter writing. It's a great time to write a letter to spread some warm holiday cheer! Here are some other great letter writing ideas: mail a letter to the President, mail a heart to Newtown to express your condolences and prayers for the recent tragedy in Connecticut that took the lives of several amazing children and adults.

Need some fun writing utensils check out The Write Dudes. Gwyn and I are in love with our new fun vibrate colored pens. They write so nicely and they are fun too.

RoseArt New Products - Goo-hu and 3D Create 'N' Color Breakthroughs

The kids and I had the opportunity to get a special sneak peek at three amazing NEW RoseArt products. The three items I will be telling you more about in this post are Goo-hu, 3D Create 'n' Color Breakthroughs and Scraps. All of these items released this month and we have had so much fun playing and learning with them.

Goo Hu Bounce and Crash Racers!

Goo-hu is a NEW unique NEVER before seen product and is great way to introduce matter science in a fun to your family. This product is fun for both boys and girls and recommended for children ages 3-99 yrs old. With each Goo-hu kit you get 5 A-Matter Pods, 5 B-Matter Pods, an instruction sheet and the molds. The instructions are super easy to follow and both of my kids were able to complete the experiment on their own. As they worked on mixing their A-Matter and B-Matter we discussed what matter is and what was going to occur after they mixed the two compounds together. Here is great website that has a simple way of explaining matter to children. A-Matter and B-Matter are gooey and squishy (kind of like slime but thicker) that will remain gooey forever if NOT mixed. But....when they are mixed together in equal amounts they change and a NEW magical matter is created. The new matter becomes rubbery, bouncy and flexible. After if fully cures your project will remain in its form and provide hours of fun.

I had planned to save some of the Goo-hu matter for another day of fun but the kids decided to use it all up in one day. We reviewed the racers kit and made several racers which we had fun slamming into each other. The first set of racers we made (red and blue) turned out just okay. We should have removed more of the excess Goo-hu and left them cureing a little bit longer. The second set (green and orange) came out much better. We also made a bouncy ball (with a toy soldier in the middle) and Rowyn made an elephant and Gwyn made a doll. Goo-hu is all about exercising your childrens imagination, but it also is about creating a toy object you can collect and play with!

Video of the kids making their Goo-hu creations:

Kits currently include:
-Racers
-Squish Bugs
-Cushie Critters
-Super Bounce Ball (boy colors and girl colors available)

*more coming next year

Retail price is $9.99 and they are available at Target and Kmart. They will also be available in January at Michaels. Goo-hu makes a fabulous gift for any birthday or holiday.

 Terrifying T-Rex!

3D Create 'N' Color Breakthroughs are lots of fun and will make ALL kids imaginations and rooms EXPLODE with creativity. These awesome 3D creations are very large and it took the kids about 4 days to complete all of the coloring. This product is recommended for ages 5 and up. The kids did all of the coloring of our Dolphin Breakthrough which is over 4 ft wide when assembled. I helped the kids with the assembly. Each 3D Create 'N' Color Breakthrough also comes with step by step instructions and printed illustrations to provide a coloring guide. My very creative daughter decided to not follow the coloring instructions and designed a very colorful dolphin which hangs on a wall over her bed. Markers are not included so you will either have to use ones you have on hand or purchse some.

There are currently 4 3D Create 'N' Color Breakthroughs:
-Jumping Dolphin
-Terrifying T-Rex
-Shark Attack
-Beautiful Flower

Retail price is $19.99 and they are available at Kmart. And in November they will be hitting Walmart, walmart.com and RiteAid just before Black Friday. 3D Create 'N' Color Breakthroughs make a fabulous gift for any birthday or holiday.

Learning About Our Fine Feathered Friends

This is the last week we will be studying birds. There is so much to learn about our Fine Feathered Friends and I know we didn't cover everything I had hoped too. But I am pretty sure it is one of those topics that the kids will most likely wish to do again when they are a little older.

This week F is for Fine Feathered Friends. We learned about having birds as pets this week. We discussed the different types of birds that you can have as pets, how to care for them and more. We also read several books on parrots and a couple on chickens since they can be pets too.

Then kids painted a picture of what they would like their pet bird to look like. The kids drew their birds with black crayon then painted them in with RoseArt watercolors. Aren't they lovely?

And we took our final bird unit study fieldtrip to a local Aviary. The kids got to pet, hold and even feed some Amazon Parrots and Sun Conures. We also saw a Ringneck Alexandrine Parakeet, a Ringneck Derbyan Parakeet, a Umbrella Cockatoo, a Red Breasted Cockatoo, African Grey and a few others. I am so grateful to Brightwood Aviary for opening their doors to our family. This fun, FREE, fieldtrip got high marks from Gwyn my animal loving 6 yr old who hopes to one day be a Veterinarian, Farmer or Zookeeper.

We watched this video on "How to choose a pet bird."

We also watched this fun video.

We haven't gotten to this part yet but we will be using the Petsmart website to learn about the cost of owning a pet bird, pet bird care and choosing the right pet bird. The plan is to do this Friday. We may even make some bird puppets too.
What kinds of scientific or art fun have you been having?

Review NEW Line Of Educational Products From MEGA Brands and LeapFrog

Did you here the news about MEGA Brands and LeapFrog teaming up to make a fun, educational paper product line for kids! The new line is great for children in Kindergarten - 3rd grade. There are workbooks,  mini dry erase activity books, play money, flashcards, journals and more. These products are great for any child whether they are homeschooled, public schooled or private schooled.

A moms review:
When our goodies arrived from RoseArt several weeks ago the kids were excited to try EVERYTHING out right away. They literally tore in the package and began using the fabulous products we received right away. So what did we receive: ddition flashcards, play money, two workbooks, draw and write journal, double sided drawing board and 2 color, shapes and counting dry erase activity books.

And here is how we used these items and some thoughts on them:

My daughter (age 6) LOVES workbooks. She uses them for homeschool, car rides, and will sometimes just do them when she is bored. Each workbook is filled with 60 pages of fun, educational activities to teach and/or reinforce subjects like reading, math, etc. There are also 60 reward stickers included. There are two levels PreK-K and K-1st. We utilized the reading and math workbooks for K-1st. The activities are colorful and very easy for children to do on their own with just a little instruction from a parent/teacher. Gwyn claimed the "Ready for 1st Grade Math" workbook and Rowyn claimed the "Beginning Reading skills" workbook. The workbooks retail for $2.99.

We do a lot of journaling in our home so the 80 page "Draw and Write Journal" from LeapFrog was a huge hit. I love that it has wide writing lines making it easier for little ones to write. On the backside of each page is a nice blank page where they can draw a picture. On the inside cover are some fun story ideas and there are also 51 story inspiring stickers. Here are some things we use journals for: drawing pictures to go along with a chapter book we are reading, drawing and writing about something we learned about during a nature walk or just for having some story making fun. The journals retail for $2.99.

The double sided 8 1/2 x 11 dry erase/chalk board are wonderful. They are great for  practicing letters, numbers, names, sight words, etc. without creating paper waste. The storage pouch is a great addition and perfect for storing chalk and dry erase markers.

The play money is so much fun. You can use this play money for so many things like playing store, sorting exercises or matching games. They make a great manipulative for tactile learners while they are solving money math problems. There are 50 - $1, 20 - $5, 15 - $10, 10 - $20, 5 - $50 and 5 - $100, 40 - 1 cent pieces, 20 - 5 cent pieces, 20 - 10 cent pieces, 16 - 25 cent pieces, 2 - 50 cent pieces so there is plenty of money to go around! The play money retails for $6.99.

We love flashcards, we have an entire bin full of them. They are a great educational tool. But a lot of people don't like flashcards because they end up all over the place and get lost. So I hole punch them and keep them together with a binder ring. Then they go into a plastic shoebox container. There are 50 addition flashcards and 30 mini cards in this LeapFrog set. I liked the inclusion of the visual aid dots. And the cut corners make them easy to sort if they do end up off the binder ring. Each card includes the equation on the back with the answer so these are great for practicing alone or with others. The mini cards have counting dots and numerals. These can be used for creating equations, counting, playing a matching game and more. There are several types of flashcards available fro LeapFrog: sight words, alphabet, division, multiplication, subtraction and addition. The flashcards retail for $2.99.

The dry erase activity books are perfect for on the go moms. They fit nicely in any bag. There are 8 sturdy board pages in this 5 x 7 spiral bound book. The included dry erase marker fits perfectly into the spiral binding and even has an eraser. We tried out the color, shapes & counting book which helps children identify shapes and colors and helps with number recognition. Activities are bright, colorful and fun. There are several different activity books available: printing, numbers, math skills and colors, shapes & counting.  The activity books retail for $1.99.

We also received the LeapFrog Success Charts but haven't had a chance to utilize them yet. There are 36 weekly charts, 4 award certificates and 270 stickers. The success charts retail for $3.99.

With the holiday breaks approaching these LeapFrog/MEGA Brand products would be a great way to keep your children entertained as well as maintain their learning while they are out of school.

Gwyns review (6 yrs old):
I love the workbooks they are fun and I get stickers when I do a good job. I really like the drawing and writing journal. I made pretty pictures in it.

Rowyns review (5 yrs old):
I like the activity marker book (dry erase activity book). I can match shapes, color shapes and do patterns. I like to play store with Mommy and Gwyn using the coins and green dollars.
