Review The True Account Of Adam And Eve and Facebook Party Reminder

The True Account of Adam and Eve

Sorry I have another review for you today and will probably have a couple more for you over the weekend. I have gotten behind yet again due to taking on too much, being sick and a few other things "life" has thrown our way. This week we have been working on our mythology unit study. We have been learning about myths from many different cultures: Egyptians, Asians, Africans, Greeks, Native Americas, etc. One commonality with every culture is the need for a creation story. They vary so greatly throughout the different cultures yet there are also some similarities. Well there is one creation "story" that for our family is not a story, myth, legend, fable, folktale or lore. For us it is history, it is "The True Account of Adam and Eve."

A moms review:
The True Account of Adam and Eve is a beautifully illustrated 64 page hard back book written by Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis.  The book is published by Master Books, a division of New Leaf Publishing Group.

When the book arrived it immediately caught my 5 and 6 yrs old attention...I am pretty sure it was the amazing cover and illustrations. Gwyn immediately knew the book was about Adam and Eve. We read through the book in one sitting and there were lots of questions throughout. In our house if the book raises questions that means it's a good one. Because of how important it is to learn about our beginnings this is definitely a book we will read again and again.

This book is not done in a story format. It is more of a  historical documentary....yet it is done in such a way that it is easy to understand and engaging for children. It quotes and paraphrases scripture and it raises questions and provides answers. The book teaches children about the creation of man and woman, the creation of marriage, how sin entered the world, how people were clothed, why animals began eating one another, that they age of the World is only thousands not millions of years old and much more. I have to say I really enjoyed learning why childbirth is so painful...it's because of our great, great, great (and many more greats) grandparents Adam and Eve and the sin they committed which allowed pain to enter the World.

The book ends with a great conclusion and some further scriptures you can research to read more about Adam who is mentioned in 9 different books of the Bible and not just Genesis.

I would like to mention that there was one GREAT question my daughter brought up that I wish was explained in the book. There is a great family tree graphic on page 48 that shows "Our family from Adam to Noah" and another on page 53 which shows "Noah's Family during the Flood". While explaining to the kids what a family tree was Gwyn says, "mommy but how did Adam and Eve's kids have kids if they were brothers and sisters?" Out of the mouths of 6 yr olds. Mommies answer, "Ummm well back long, long, long longggggg ago it used to be okay to marry a brother or sister." Kids response, "that's yucky, I would never marry my brother or sister." I further explained that the law forbidding marriage between close relatives was not given until the time of Moses (Leviticus 18-20) and that in order for us to all be descendents from Adam and Eve that was the way it had to be. I also explained how Adam and Eve had lots of children not just a couple which also helped them understand a little better.

Check out this video to see how stunning the illustrations are:

More about the book:

Where mankind’s history began impacts how our future will end!

  • The biblical answer to the question: Were Adam and Eve real people or just generic references for all of mankind?
  • Explains the connection between original sin and the gospel
  • Emphasizes the importance of Adam and Eve as literal history to young and old alike

When you unlock the door to biblical compromise, the door gets pushed open wider with each generation. The Church is now debating the validity of Genesis as actual history, the reality of hell itself, and even if Adam was a real person. Trying to change the biblical time-line to fit with the secular concepts of millions of years has led many in Christian academia to reject the literal interpretation of the Bible itself. Perfect for children, the book helps them discover the truth about the first man and woman, and how their disobedience led to the need for Jesus Christ.
