*This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure Page for details.

We are a big Lego loving family so of course we were really excited to find out that the Lego American Roadshow was coming to Alpharetta, Georgia. This FREE special exhibit will be on display at North Point Mall from September 17th - October 4th.

The LEGO® Americana Roadshow: Building Across America is a travelling display of large scale LEGO models replicating some of our nation’s most well known landmarks.

Models include: US Capitol Building, The White House, Supreme Court, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall, Old North Church and Liberty Bell.

In addition to these models there will be mini-figure scale “Brickscapes” as well as a fully staffed hands-on Play Area for guests.

This week we are planning to check out this exhibit along with several of our homeschool friends. And guess what? We can totally count our visit to this exhibit as schoolwork because I made a scavenger hunt to go along with it that incorporates math, writing, reading, history, geography, science and more! Before you visit make sure you download your copy of this FREE Lego Americana Scavenger Hunt

You can also download a lesson plan courtesy of Park Meadows Mall.

After we visit this week I will come back and upload some of our photos!

Celebricktion - December 20-22 Roswell, Georgia

*This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure Page for details.

As you know we are a Lego loving family so we are always eager to share Lego related events and products with you. We also love helping local charities any way we can. So this post is an extra special one because it combines these two loves!

Celebricktion is a can't miss event! During this fundraising event visitors can view the huge Lego city made out of over one million Lego pieces featuring parks, 12-foot plus high skyscrapers, streets and even a parade containing thousands of Lego mini figures. This amazing display took over a year to build and hopefully one day will travel across the country. The city was built by Harry and Austin Nijenkamp a father and son team and everything was "free built" (meaning no plans or drawings).

Harry uniquely designed the Celebricktion display to have the capacity to be safely moved from one location to another. This mobility had to be kept in mind before laying the first brick and during the entire creative, building process....all finished without any glue to provide structural stability and portability. People from all over attend Celebricktion events to witness Harry and Austin's impressive displays.

Celebricktion tickets are $10 per person. The event will take place on DECEMBER 20-22, 2014; 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the High Meadows School, Community Center in Roswell. ALL proceeds go towards an amazing charity called The Drake House. The Drake House provides short-term crisis housing, education and empowerment programs for homeless mothers and their children in North Fulton County.

Also on display will be:

- A replica of Nijenkamp's Lego Studio to provide insight into how they create  their giant exhibits,
- A Lego Robotics demonstration and
- Various creations by other metro-Atlanta, Lego enthusiasts.

And guess what? The Balman family will be attending and will have have some of our Lego creations on display. Stop by our table to say hello! We hope to see you there.

My kids with one of their many Lego creations!

What The Balman Kids Wanna Be When They Grow Up

*This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure Page for details.

We had tons of fun with the Poppins Book Nook blog series last year and we will be continuing that fun all throughout 2014. This month's theme was, "What Will I Be When I Grow Up!" Keep reading to learn more about the books we read and crafts we made. There is also a giveaway is at the end of the post! To check out all of our past Poppins Book Nook posts click here.

Books:
If there is one thing my children can do it is dream big. Both of them are very passionate and already have made up their minds what they want to be when they grow up. They even have blogs they have started which are dedicated to their passions. Gwyn's blog can be viewed here and Rowyn's blog can be viewed here. Gwyn wants to own a farm and rescue animals, especially horses. She also wants to be an artist which will help fund her rescue. Rowyn wants to be a Lego Master Builder. So the two books we read were Hurry and The Lego Ideas Book.

Hurry is a beautifully illustrated book about a little girl who helps her grandparents with the hay harvest on their farm. But while the hay is drying the sky begins to turn dark and they begin to fear the worst. If the rain gets the hay wet the entire crop will spoil and the horses would not have anything to eat. Will Nora, Gramp and Gram be able to harvest the hay and get it safely to the barn before the rain comes?

The Lego Ideas Book is one of Rowyns favorite. It is loaded with over 500 building ideas. The book is divided into six themed chapters — transportation, buildings, space, kingdoms, adventure, and useful makes — each with basic templates of key models and spreads to inspire you to create your own. It is perfect for any child who is addicted to Lego Bricks.
