A moms review:
There are currently 4 books in the, If You Were Me and Lived In..., series:

If You Were Me and Lived in...Mexico
If You Were Me and Lived in...South Korea
If You Were Me and Lived in...France
If You Were Me and Lived in...Norway

We received all 4 of these fabulous living books. The books are written and illustrated by Carole P. Roman and are for children ages 4 years old through 8 years old. Though I am pretty sure even little ones 2-3 years old would enjoy them too. Each soft cover book is 8 1/2" by 8 1/2 inches and 20-30 pages in length. The text is very large and easy to read (perfect for little or bad eyes). The colored illustrations are well done and each goes along very well with the text.

Each book is laid out the same. The book begins with an illustration of the country and the location of the capital city. Next children will find out where the country is located on the globe. They may also learn a fun fact too like, "Norway is know as, The Land of The Midnight Sun, because for parts of the year the sun never sets and shines all day and night." Then it's time for your children to grab their passports and take a tour of the country with two local children (a boy and a girl). Children will learn about landmarks, names, money, food, customs, holidays, languages, sports and more in each book. I love how the book is written in the 2nd person and from a child's perspective. Even the country's flag is incorporated into the books illustrations. In the back of each book is a nifty pronunciation guide (very helpful if you don't speak these languages). Through these 4 books children will get to see and experience how alike we all really are in this small World.

I utilized the books with my 6 and 7 year old. They LOVED the books and we had tons of fun expanding on each one. If you read my blog often then you know I couldn't just simply read books to the children. Nope we dive into each book and utilize it as a unit study. So with the, If You Were Me and Lived..., In books we filled out passports, played with a globe beach ball, filled out Geography Journal Pages (see below to grab yours for FREE), made flags, and even experienced some authentic cuisine.

Here are some pictures from our visit to a local Korean restaurant, Bang Ga Nae. Yes we really sat on the floor and even ate with chopsticks! We had yummy authentic Korean food including bulgogi, kimchi, bok choy, kelp, rice and more. Many of these foods were mentioned in the, "If You Were Me And Lived In...South Korea book. It was a fabulous experience and helped complete our travels through Korea. We even got to say thank you in Korean, "kamsa-hamnida"

These books are great for all homeschool styles, learning styles and both boys and girls. I hope Carole continues to write more books for this series because we will definitely be purchasing them if she does. These books are a great compliment to any Geography unit study or curriculum. So what are you waiting for grab your passport and get that suitcase packed already!

Freebie:
These books are great in themselves but to expand on what the children had learned I made some Geography Journal Pages. These journal pages can be used with any Geography curriculum or resource and they complimented the If You Were Me And Lived...series perfectly. Download here or by clicking the photo below.

Gwyn review (7 yrs old) and Rowyns review (6 yrs old):
Gwyn, "I liked the books a lot. We learned lots of facts and we got to eat at actual country restaurants. I liked learning how to say doll in different languages. We also filled out our passports and journal pages each time we visited a different country."

Rowyn, "I liked the books too. We ate yummy food from all over different countries. We made flags and put stickers and pictures in our passports. It was super fun."
