I Am Ruth was the first package to arrive at our new home. I know that may not seem exciting to you, but it was for me! I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book. I immediately opened the package and was blown away by the front cover and even more in awe once I opened the book. The photography in the book is absolutely amazing. It is the perfect addition to our coffee table books.
The hardback book is 96 pages and great for children of all ages as well as adults. The full colored images were actually taken from within Israel, very near the historical locale of Ruth's life. It was like traveling back in time 3,000 years ago to a far off land without ever leaving our sofa. The book images were photographed by Kenneth Berg. Brenda Duff wrote all the text for the book.
I have always enjoyed reading the story of Ruth and love the lessons that are taught: facing life after loss, rediscovering faith and trusting God. But this book helped us discover so much more about Ruth and really brought the biblical story to life for our family. We learned about the important biblical and genealogical connections which are an important part of Biblical history. We learned about the geography of the lands. And of course we learned the story about Ruth.
This historical account book starts out with a 1 page foreward and 1 page overview. After that there are 4 chapters covering the story of Ruth. Each chronological chapter is written in a very easy understand way in an almost story-like fashion. Which makes it perfect to read to children. In each chapter there is actual scripture mentioned, but in between each chapter you will find 2 white pages with a picture of Ruth which has the actual New King James scripture from the Old Testament book of Ruth. At the end of the book there is a conclusion and information about the author and photographer.
This book is so well done it is almost like watching a film. The photos show lots of expression, detail and authenticity. You can actually see the emotions in the pictures. The children had a great time just looking at the photos and learning about life back in biblical times in Israel. The clothing, homes, traveling methods, landscapes and farming practices were historically and beautifully depicted.
As mentioned above this book is great for all ages as well as people from all walks of faith. The book is geared towards Christian readers, however those interested in ancient history and archaeology would also enjoy this book.
