Build Memories At Atlanta LEGOLAND Discovery Center (Review)

LEGOLAND^® Discovery Centers bring together great 4D cinema shows, rides, LEGO MINILAND^® and more. They offer hours of color, creativity and fun for any LEGO addicted child ages 3-10!

A moms review:
Calling all LEGO lovers! If you are looking for a fun family activity I highly recommend a visit to LEGOLAND. My kids have been to LEGOLAND 3 times now and every time they visit they have a blast. They actually got to go to the grand opening event for LEGOLAND Atlanta last April!

LEGOLAND Discovery Centers are like a mini theme park and there are 15 fun attractions. Plan to spend at least 2-3 hours at LEGOLAND, though you are welcome to stay as long as you like. We stayed about 3 hours during our most recent visit because it was an extremely busy Saturday, but the last time we visited it was during a weekday and we stayed about 5 hours.

After we checked out the awesome life-size LEGO minifigs out front we received our tickets from the very friendly staff. You can also opt to purchase activity packs for $4. Activity packs include puzzles to solve and spaces to collect stamps. They come with LEGOLAND Discovery Center Lanyard and Limited Edition Pop Badge.

Our first stop was the LEGO Factory tour. Because it was a Saturday there was a little bit of a wait but there were more life-size minifigs to keep the kids busy. During the tour you will learn how LEGO bricks are made. There is a mock factory set up where kids can push buttons and turn cranks. They can even step on a scale to see how many bricks they weigh. After the tour is over each kids gets a special commemorative brick.

The next stop is the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride...even mommy and daddy had fun on this one! On this ride you aboard a chariot and are armed with a laser gun, which you use to shoot ogres, rats and cats in order to rescue the princess. At the end you can compare your scores to see who is the bravest knight. After you get off the ride you can opt to purchase your family's souvenir photo from the ride. If you go on a day it's not too busy the kids can easily ride the rides over and over again!

Our next stop was MINILAND! This is such a fun interactive exhibit. In this exhibit you get to take a tour of a miniature version of Atlanta, built out of nearly 1.5 million LEGO bricks!! You get to see the city come to life during both the nighttime and daytime. There are buttons the kid's can push to make create sound effects and make items move. It was so much fun naming the Atlanta landmarks and buildings. My kid's were very excited to see their two favorite buildings the King and Queen built out of LEGO bricks.

We left MINILAND through the Stone Mountain tunnel and headed directly for the next ride Merlin's Apprentice. This ride will give you a workout as you pedal your flying machine to make it rise high into the sky. Because of the spinning mommy and daddy stayed off of this one but we had fun building at the brick tables while we waited for the kid's to finish their journey. This ride is always such a hit and the kid's always ride it multiple times.

Next we started some family friendly competitions at the Build and Test Tracks. There is a table filled with bricks and wheels so you can design your perfect vehicle. After you are confident you have built a speed machine it's time to race!!! There were lots of adults joining in the fun at this station. Our LEGO building extraordinaire's beat us each and every time.


After the competitions ended it was time for a break for mommy and daddy. So we sent the kids into the Fire Academy and Construction Site which is a  soft play area for kids only. This area features soft building bricks, a slide, climbing wall, secret tubes and more.

For LEGO loving girls there is the LEGO Friends Olivia's House play area which has a karaoke microphone, play kitchen and of course LEGO bricks for building fun!

The 4D cinema is definitely a must. This is my personal favorite. There were 3-4 different movies that run every 15 minutes. You will experience wind, rain, lightening and more as you enter the world's of your favorite LEGO characters! We have seen every show and they are all amazing. Our family's favorite is probably LEGO® LEGENDS OF CHIMA™! 

Think you have what it takes to build a tower that will withstand an earthquake? You can find out at the Earthquake Tables. This is also a blast. We each built a tower on the building platform then pressed the button to make the platform vibrate. Only the strongest building will survive!

Other attractions include LEGO Master Builder Academy, DUPLO Village (for little ones), LEGOLAND Discovery Center Shop, Birthday Rooms and coming soon LEGO Ninjago Laser Maze (my son is begging to visit again once this is added).

Throughout LEGOLAND Discovery Center you will find LEGO brick building stations as well as more fun life-size minifigs and LEGO sculptures.

If you plan to spend several hours at LEGOLAND the admission fee is not unreasonable, but if you are only planning to visit for an hour or two you may want to look for coupons or arrange a group visit to get a discount.

Extra details:
-The museum is stroller friendly and handicap accessible.
-Outside food and drinks are not allowed. There is a cafe onsite for your convenience. I thought the prices were very reasonable.
-Allow yourself about 2-3 hours to see everything at Legoland.
-Parking is free.
-There are restrooms located within the center.
-Download the LEGOLAND App for games, quizzes and build activities you can use during your visit and at home.

When to visit:
Sunday - Friday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. (Last admission is at 5 p.m.), Saturday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. (Last admission is at 7 p.m.)

*Adult Night will take place on a quarterly basis. On that day we will close admission at 5 p.m. and re-open the attraction to adults only at 7 p.m.
