The Woodcarver DVD Review and Giveaway

We had the pleasure of watching the movie The Woodcarver which will be released on March 13th. This movie is a wonderful family movie. It has a PG rating for some thematic material but I was perfectly okay with letting my 4 1/2 and 6 yr old watch it.

Synopsis:
The movie is about a troubled boy named Matthew, who in an effort to get attention from his divorcing parents decides to vandalize the church his father is renovating. Later in the movie you find out why he chose the church. To avoid criminal charges Matthew must help repair the church. While working at the church Mattthew meets Ernest the man who created the intricate woodwork he destroyed. Ernest who was dealing with the passing of his wife and son had become withdrawn and eventually stopped attending church. But after much consideration Ernest decides to repair the woodwork for the church along with the help of Matthew. And  an unlikely friendship forms. Together they realize that all things are possible with faith, family and friendship.

Moms review:
It is nice to see a heart warming family movie that also deals with a major issue that affects many kids today, divorce. I love to watch movies and lately I have noticed that almost every single kids movie that comes out portrays either a divorced, separated or widowed parent situation. With the exception of the widowed parent situation, this does not encourage our kids to grow up and take marriage seriously. Instead it tells them that its okay to give up and that marriage is not sacred. So at first I was disappointed that it was yet another movie with a couple going through a divorce. But then.....closer to the end I loved the message that was revealed and I love the message it gave kids. I also had a flash back to my elementary school days. Remember WWJD? The wrist bands, bracelets, necklaces, stickers, file folder, notebooks? It was the coolest thing for every Christian kid. Well that is brought up in the movie as well which is awesome. So over all I loved it and am glad to see a quality family movie coming out.

Gwyns review (6 yrs old):
Yup she cried again. She is such an emotional 6 yr old. I looked over at her when Ernest was flashing back to his wife's passing and she had her hands underneath her glasses wiping her eyes. She said, "Mommy my eyes are vomiting." I couldn't help but chuckle at the comment. She got really scared during the workshop accident, so be prepared for that it is near the end of the movie when everyone is working together. And her favorite part was actually the very end when the new woodwork piece is placed onto the church.
