Borax Crystal Snowflakes and Art Binders

Yesterday we finished up our Antarctica and Penguin unit. And for our science experiment/craft we made Borax Snowflakes. They are super easy to do and in 24 hrs you have a really cool decoration. I wish I could take credit for the idea but I can't I found it online. Oh and make sure you tell your kids in advance that they cannot eat the Borax. Gwyn decided to sample it because she thought it was sugar.

Mixing in the Borax into boiling water.
We placed the pipe cleaner snowflakes into the jars which we also added food coloring too. The we waited.......
Finished Snowflake Crystals

Today the kids decorated the covers of their art binders. My ex-boss called me a couple of weeks ago and asked if I would like a bunch of 1" view binders. OF COURSE. I have such a binder addiction. Well she gave me about 40 of them. Hubby had the idea to make some art binders for the kids. Gwyn loved the idea because she loves to draw and insists we keep all of her creations.

Easy directions give your kids glue, markers, stickers, cutouts and paper and let them go to town.

What an awesome project! I am going to have to try that with my kids. Wow, 40 binders! That's great! As I was reading this post, my daughter was just putting something else into one of her binders! Great minds think alike!

Hope you have a great rest of your week!
Many blessings,
Lisa

We tried this with salt and I was "eh" with the results...but I have Borax from another experiment--we are SO doing this!

Thank you for linking up!! We will definitley be "pinning" this one :-)

Thanks everyone for stopping by. The kids really enjoyed making them and it was more exciting than the rock candy because they saw the results in less than 24 hrs. The rock candy took days!

We made the borax snowflakes at our house last winter, and they turned out so great! They hung in a window for a long time.

It's super to get so many binders given to you!! The art binders are very nice :)

Thanks for linking up!

We made these when we studied Alaska! Such fun, ours is STILL hanging in our window, they last for ever, our little bit of winter here in Hawaii ;)
