Review Bob Books Set 1

A few months ago I won a giveaway for the Bob Books Sight Words Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Well after I sent them my mailing address so they could mail the prize they replied saying they enjoyed my blog and asked me if I would like an additional product to review. Of course I said YES because I had heard so many wonderful things about them and chose the Set 1 Beginner Readers.

Last year I tried to teach Gwyn to learn to read because she said she wanted to. We started with just learning some word families like cat, mat, bat and can, ran, fan etc. And started to read some simple books I printed online. But she became frustrated and so did I. We were in the middle of a move and the holidays were approaching so we didn't have a chance to give the Bob Books a try. So we backed off reading and took a break.

A couple of weeks ago I asked the kids what they wanted to learn this year and Gwyn replied "Mommy I want to read". So I got out the Bob Books and was shocked at what happened. In two days time she was reading books 1-4 of set 1 on her own. Don't believe me here is a video this was taken after 3 days of reading the Bob Books. And well she also decided to take over my review. This video was actually just supposed to be for my personal use to treasure as a memory but Gwyn had other plans.

These books have boosted her confidence which is just what she needed. She loves to read to her brother and her daddy most of all.

Since I know she has now memorized the sequence of the words and can pretty much look at just the pictures and say the sentences without even looking at the words I have started supplementing her learning. I want to make sure she can truly comprehend the words. So we have been doing things like flash cards, games, word searches and spelling city (I created my own list for books 1-4). Also the Bob Books Blog and their New/Resources section is an excellent resource for ideas. There are even some fun coloring pages. I also found this blog that is entirely devoted to Bob Books. And here you can find a reading checklists and some tips.

*Disclaimer - Bob Books provided us with a complimentary set of Bob Books Set 1. I was not compensated for my review and all opinions are our own! Many of the links found on my side bars and in my blog posts are affiliate links. As a result, I might get paid money and I will most likely spend the money on homeschool supplies.
