I is for Imagination

I is the letter this week for the ABC's of homeschooling meme. My I is for Imagination!

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination." Albert Einstein (a homeschooler of course)

Imagination is so important for our children and one thing that I feel they don't get to express enough in the public school environment. As homeschoolers we have such an advantage because our children can use their imagination everyday which will help them develop important skills that boost their learning and success.

"Logic will get you from point A to point B. Imagination will take you everywhere." Albert Einstein

My kids already use their imaginations quite a bit and when we begin homeschooling in the Fall they will be encouraged to continue.

When we go on our field trips I encourage the kids to use their imaginations quite a bit. On our recent trip to the Etowah Indian Mounds I had the kids imagine that they were Indians living a village. We imagined what foods we would eat, what activites we would participate in, etc. When we go on hikes we collect items from nature and when we get home the kids use various craft supplies and art mediums to create one of a kind artwork. Like Gwyns pinecone lady.

During playtime my son the kinesthetic learner loves to use his imagination to build bridges, slides and cakes out of almost anything (blankets, blocks, pillows, cardboard). My daughter enjoys dressing up as a princess and making her brother be her prince.

And their mama well I have quite the imagination too and always have.

If you use your imagination you can go wherever and be whoever you want. You will believe that fairy's and unicorns exist (like I do). Imagination is something that should never go away no matter how old you get!

"Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attraction." Albert Einstein

What sort of things do you or the kids use your imaginations for?

Great post Kathy. I love your fieldtrip example. I do that as well. And the final quote is awesome....it's the preview of life's coming attraction. Sweet!

Great word for the letter I. Homeschooling is definitely a great host for the development of the imagination.

Great post! The Einstein quotes are fantastic... I've never heard those before and they are so RIGHT. Your little girl looks like a sweetie in her fairy dress! I love how kids can just submerge themselves in imagination, and wish that I could still do that sometimes. :)
