F is for Fabulous Fun Filled Field Trips on Fridays starting in the Fall

F is the letter this week for the ABC's of homeschooling meme. So without further ado my F is for Fabulous Fun Filled Field Trips on Fridays starting in the Fall (okay my 6 F's).

One great thing about homeschooling will be all the wonderful hands on learning our kids will be able to experience. For those of you visiting for the first time we will be homeschooling newbies starting this Fall and we are also planning a move to Savannah, GA. Savannah is filled with so much history and one of the oldest cities in GA, which is one reason we want to move there. You can read more interesting facts about Savannah here.

My plan is to take the kids on some sort of field trip every Friday. Some of the trips I have planned are:

-Tybee Beach
-Tybee Marine Center
-Oatland Island Wildlife Center
-Telfair Museums
-Fernbank (another F) in Atlanta not Savannah but we have a membership good until next April
-Ghost Tour
-Skidaway Island Park
-Fort Jackson (even our field trips have F's)
-Forsyth Park (and the list of F's goes on)
-Wormsloe
-Chatham public library outings and activities
-Chatham County Botanical Gardens
-Marsh exploration
-Tybee Lighthouse
-Historic Savannah Theater
-Bonaventure Cemetary
-Historic Churches and Cathedrals
-Savannah Candy Kitchen

Okay I'll stop now, I could go on and on because there is just so much to see and do in this great big world. If we could afford to own a Winnebago and travel the country or the world and homeschool we would!

Since we are going to be doing the more eclectic approach to homeschooling and utilizing a lot of free, on hand or handmade resources we will be budgeting a lot of our homeschool funds for field trips. A lot of the field trips I mentioned are free or very inexpensive and some even have homeschool programs (how cool is that).

There are so many reasons I feel that this learning style will fit us and here are few. My daughter hates to be couped up and gets very antsy  when she is (my mom blames it on me taking her out at only 2 days old, lol). By her knowing that a field trip is coming on Friday we hope that it will help her focus on her studies throughout the week. Our son is a tactile learner so this is a great way for him to explore and get the hands on learning he craves. And well I hate being stuck at home too so it's a good reason for me to get out learn something new an hopefully meet new people. And well some studies show that students learn better and retain more through hands on learning (over lectures and/or book work).

Even though we are not homeschooling now I try to get the kids out at least once a month for a Fabulous Fun Filled Field Trip. Here are some pictures of the adventures we've been on.
Flowers - Smith-Gilbert Botanical Gardens - Kennesaw, GA

It's a Twister - Fernbank Museum - Atlanta, GA
Sea Foam - Tybee Beach - Savannah, GA
Farm - Jasper, GA
Finding Treasures Geocaching at Red Top Mountain - Kennesaw, GA

So how many F's was that, lol? Cannot wait to write next week this is a lot of fun!

Thatzalotta F's! :) I love the field trips! They make homeschooling so much more fun and SO MUCH better than public schools. Our kids can GO somewhere and see and touch, rather than have to just sit and read about things. Thanks for linking up!
